Police probe report one of manohara lawyers is a fake
POLICE are investigating a report that one of the three solicitors who appeared for Cik Puan Temenggong Kelantan Manohara Odelia in the Kelantan Syariah Court last Sunday is a not a lawyer.
A report lodged by Tuan Syaiful Hadi Tuan Wel yesterday at Kubang Kerian police station alleged that the man is neither a civil nor a syariah lawyer.
Tuan Syaiful said he was making the report as a subject of Kelantan to expose the man impersonating a lawyer in a case involving a member of the royalty.
He said he took action after reading the story in a Malay tabloid about Manohara intending to appoint two lawyers to assist her Indonesian lawyer Farhat Abbas.
Three lawyers appeared in the Kota Baru Syariah High Court on Sunday for Manohara in a case brought against her by her husband Tengku Temenggong Kelantan Tengku Muhammad Fakhry.
At the start of the proceedings, judge Mohd Yusof Awang rejected an application by Mohd Faiz Adnan for two lawyers who are holding a watching brief for Manohara to be seated at the defence table on the grounds they were not recognised as syariah lawyers in Kelantan.
The two accepted the decision and sat in the gallery to observe the proceedings.
Tengku Fakhry had applied to the Syariah High Court to amend his debt claim from his estranged wife Manohara Odelia from RM972,750 to RM1,112,250.
Mohd Yusof allowed the application, which was made orally by the plaintiff’s laywer Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar and was not objected to by Mohd Faiz.
The amendment was sought because several more documents that became available showed Manohara owed over RM1 million.
Tengku Muhammad Fakhry is demanding that she return to him and settle the debts owed, which were accumulated before and after their marriage.
The court also witnessed the plaintiff’s lawyer handing over copies of the writ of summons to Manahora’s counsel after being told the defendant had not been furnished copies.
Mohd Yusof then set Oct 5 for re-mention and gave the defendant 14 days before that date to file her defence.
Mohd Faiz informed the court he would wait for instructions from his client on the matter and said that Manohara was willing to give testimony in court if needed.
Manohara, mum yet to appoint counsel
DAISY: Has 21 days to respond to writ
PRINCESS Manohara Odelia, 17, and her mother Daisy Fajarina, 44, have yet to appoint a lawyer here in the RM105 million defamation suit brought against them by Tengku Temenggong Kelantan Tengku Muhammad Fakhry.
Tengku Muhammad Fakhry’s civil lawyer Mohd Haaziq Pillay said since no lawyer here had contacted his firm on the matter, he has made arrangements to serve the writ on Manohara’s lawyer in Jakarta.
Haaziq said he found it strange that no lawyer had contacted him, especially with talk that Manohara has at least 10 lawyers here.
He said both mother and daughter would have 21 days to respond to the writ from the day of service.
Tengku Muhammad Fakhry in his statement of claim alleged certain statements were made by Daisy and Manohara out of malice to injure his reputation and were motivated by financial gain, but have resulted in irreparable and maximum damage to him.
Tengku Muhammad Fakhry claimed these have tarnished his good name, standing and reputation among the royalty, the public, the Malaysian government, and also in the international community.
He is seeking RM35 million each in aggravated, exemplary and compensatory damages.
